Rebecca Shore

Rebecca Shore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), within the Cato College of Education. She specializes in educational leadership, focusing on school administration, early childhood education, arts integration, and applying cognitive science principles to educational practices. Her roles include teaching in the Master of School Administration, Aspiring Principal, and Doctorate programs. Prior to academia, she spent 28 years in K-12 education, including 15 years as a school administrator in California and North Carolina, including her tenure as principal of a National Blue Ribbon School.

Dr. Shore holds an Ed.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from the University of Southern California (1996), alongside degrees in music education and administration. Her research emphasizes leadership development, equity in education, and the science of learning. Notable works include the book Developing Young Minds from Conception to Kindergarten (2015), awarded the "Essential" ranking by the Association of Research Colleges & Universities, and her role as editor of the Head Start Dialog journal.

Her recent articles (2023-2018) focus on kindergarten readiness assessments, leadership effectiveness in high-poverty schools, and innovative professional development models. Awards include the 2015-2016 North Carolina Art Educators Association's Higher Education Arts Educator of the Year. She leads projects like the Charlotte Mindfulness Initiative and the Aspiring High School Principal Program funded by major foundations. Community involvement includes roles on boards for Child Care Resources and charter school initiatives.
