Rebecca S. Keller, PhD is a Professor and Assistant Dean of Medical Education in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Albany Medical College's School of Medicine. Her academic career spans both cardiovascular research and medical education.
- Professor, Molecular and Cellular Physiology
- Assistant Dean, Medical Education
Dr. Keller's educational background includes a BS (1982), MS (1989), and PhD (1996), all from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her research initially focused on cardiovascular physiology, particularly studying integrin function in cardiac development and vascular smooth muscle cell migration. More recently, her work has shifted toward medical education and assessment methodologies.
Her current research interests emphasize innovative pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning, including gamification, case-based learning, problem-based learning, and flipped classrooms. She investigates different learning styles and how to effectively match teaching techniques to student needs. This represents a transition from her earlier work in cardiovascular molecular biology to educational science.
Dr. Keller's publications from 2000-2004 reveal a strong foundation in cardiovascular research, particularly examining the role of integrins and calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases in cardiac function and vascular biology. Her more recent work appears to focus on educational methodologies as indicated in her faculty profile.
As Assistant Dean of Medical Education, Dr. Keller plays a significant administrative role in shaping the medical curriculum and educational approaches at Albany Medical College.
