Rebecca Renfro, DMA, is a Full Professor of Voice and Director of Opera Workshop at Sam Houston State University's School of Music. With degrees in music (B.M., M.M., D.M.A.) and Accounting (B.B.A.), she transitioned from a five-year career in oil and gas accounting to academia, where she has led nationally recognized opera productions since 2011.
- Nationally recognized program leadership: SHSU Opera finalists (2011–2022) in National Opera Association competitions with multiple wins.
- Co-produced Dido and Aeneas at Kobe College, Japan (2018), with sold-out performances.
- Recipient of the 2023 American Prize in Opera Stage Direction and 2012 National Opera Association Production Prize.
Her research focuses on early music opera pedagogy, undergraduate opera training, and inter-organizational collaboration in opera. She advocates for neurodiversity in arts education, presenting at TMEA, NATS, and NOA conferences.
