Rebecca Oswald is an Assistant Professor in Criminology and Sociology at Northumbria University, based in the Department of Social Sciences. She teaches undergraduate Criminology modules and leads the Northumbria Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) Level 6 program. Her research focuses on youth crime, desistance, and interventions for criminalized populations, particularly exploring Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISE) and serious youth violence in Northeast England.
Her research interests include understanding how 'place' influences youth violence, evaluating voluntary sector interventions, and designing effective support systems for at-risk youth. She has published extensively on desistance pathways, employment barriers, and community-based solutions.
Rebecca’s work combines empirical studies with policy-relevant insights, emphasizing practical applications in criminal justice and youth welfare. She holds a PhD in Criminology (2020), MA in Law (2016), and LLB (Hons) in Law (2012).
