Rebecca Nunes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Lens-Based Media at Staffordshire University's Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business school. Her practice-based research explores land use, resource extraction, and non-human agency through photography and experimental film. She holds an MFA from Whitecliffe College and a BA in Film & Literature from Warwick University.
Research interests include ecologies, indigenous alliances, co-design practices, and interdisciplinary methodologies. Current PhD research focuses on ethical representation strategies for land in photo-film media. Nunes co-leads the Masters in Contemporary Arts Practice, emphasizing placemaking and sustainability in teaching.
Notable works include the 2017 film This Air is a Material (Aotearoa New Zealand) and the 2023 Clouded Vision paper. Awards include the 2019 SPE Conference Grant and 2010 NZIPP Landscape Photographer award. She collaborates with Tangent Collective, PLACE Collective, and 35A Partnership to build community resilience through creative strategies.
