Rebecca Jordan is a Visiting Assistant Professor of German at Bowdoin College, where she is affiliated with the German Department. She teaches courses in German and English that examine environmentalism in daily life through community engagement and comparative analysis of U.S.-German fishing industries.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD from Washington University in St. Louis
- MA from University of Connecticut
- BA from Saint Anselm College
Dr. Jordan's research explores intersections of queer theory, animal studies, and technology in contemporary German literature, focusing on animal-technology interactions during the Holocene epoch. She analyzes representations of bodily immersion with technologies in changing climates through science fiction, horror narratives, and nonfictional animal behavior discussions. Her work bridges environmental humanities with critical theory to address ecological transformations in 20th-21st century German contexts.
She has taught German environmentalism courses with community engagement components at the University of Connecticut since 2023, and now implements similar comparative frameworks at Bowdoin College.
