Dr. Rebecca Hill is a Term Lecturer in the School of Nursing at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. She holds advanced degrees including a PhD in Nursing from Boston College and a DNP from Duke University. Her academic roles include serving as former Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor at MGH-IHP, where she has taught pre-licensure nursing and co-authored a pharmacology review text for nursing students preparing for the NCLEX. Her research focuses on infant feeding challenges, particularly ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) and its impact on breastfeeding and gastrointestinal health. Dr. Hill has published extensively on frenotomy outcomes, maternal-infant bonding, and nursing education innovations.
Education: BSN from the University of Rhode Island; MSN and Nursing Education post-master’s certificate from Duke University; DNP and PhD in Nursing from Duke University and Boston College, respectively.
Research Interests: Dr. Hill’s work centers on problematic infant feeding, ankyloglossia, and the physiological and psychological impacts of tongue-tie. She has pioneered tools like the GIGER scale for gastrointestinal symptom assessment and the Infant Eating Assessment Tool (InfantEAT). Her studies explore interventions such as frenotomy and nurse-led feeding support to improve maternal-infant outcomes. She also investigates the role of technology in nursing education, including AI-generated NCLEX preparation materials.
Awards: Recipient of the Nancy T. Watts Excellence in Teaching Award (2019), M. Louise Fitzpatrick Nursing Scholarship (2019), and Dorothy A. Jones PhD Student Award (2021). Her work has been recognized for advancing nursing education and clinical practice.
Professional Contributions: Serves on the board of the Massachusetts/Rhode Island League for Nursing (MARILN) and is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Nurses Association (ANA), and the National League for Nursing (NLN). She has presented at conferences like the American Academy of Nursing Health Policy Conference and the European Academy of Paediatric Societies.
