Rebecca Hartley

Rebecca Hartley is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Criminology at the Sheffield Institute of Law and Justice, part of Sheffield Hallam University's College of Social Sciences and Arts. She holds an LLB (Hons), MSc, and professional teaching qualifications. Her roles include Module Leader for Law in Practice, Legal Skills and Research, Dissertation (LLM International Commercial Law), Forensic Criminology 2, and Academic and Legal Foundations (LLB). She teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programs in both Law and Criminology.

Her research focuses on criminal reasonableness in legal defenses and jury perceptions, with a doctorate in progress. She emphasizes legal skill development, particularly critical thinking, having co-designed a module addressing legal language and argument analysis. Professional experience includes policy work with South Yorkshire Police and collaboration on policing education forums.

Awarded FHEA and PGCLTHE, Dr Hartley also advises students and contributes to postgraduate curriculum development. She maintains partnerships with South Yorkshire Police to enhance academic-practice collaboration.
