Dr. Rebecca Draisey-Collishaw is a Research Fellow in the School of Languages, Arts and Societies at the University of Sheffield, where she also directs the distance-learning MA in Traditional and World Music. Previously, she held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at Queen’s University (2019–2020) and curated digital projects for institutions like the National Science and Media Museum and Irish Traditional Music Archive. Her research explores music’s role in citizenship, multiculturalism, and political campaigns, with a focus on Canada and Newfoundland. She joined Sheffield in 2022 and is a Research Associate on the Access Folk project.
Education: PhD in Ethnomusicology (Memorial University of Newfoundland), MA in Performance (Western University), and undergraduate studies in oboe performance. Research interests include:
- Participant-led research dismantling barriers in English folk singing
- Music’s role in Canadian election campaigns
- DIY music-sharing histories
- Gender and regional representation at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann
Publications span Music & Politics, Journal of Music, Health and Wellbeing, and Ethnomusicology Forum. Professional roles include editorial work for Yearbook for Traditional Music and co-guest editing Ethnomusicology Ireland. Current projects include exhibitions on folk music archives and analysis of CBC’s cultural production.
