Rebecca Cypess is the Mordecai D. Katz and Dr. Monique C. Katz Dean of the Undergraduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Yeshiva University. A scholar and performer, she is committed to servant-leadership, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration between Torah study and the sciences, humanities, and arts. Prior to YU, she served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Music at Rutgers University, where she founded an Arts in Health Research Lab and interdisciplinary programs.

Her research focuses on 17th- and 18th-century European and American music, Jewish cultural history, women in music, and intersections of music with science and Torah scholarship. She co-founded the period-instrument ensemble Raritan Players, whose recordings received critical acclaim.

Cypess has also gained public prominence since 2023 for addressing antisemitism in higher education through publications in Tablet, Inside Higher Ed, and the Wall Street Journal. She is a harpsichordist and historical pianist who has recorded for exhibitions and media projects, including Apple TV’s Franklin.
