Dr. Rebecca Beeken is an Associate Professor of Behavioural Medicine at the University of Leeds, supported by a Yorkshire Cancer Research Fellowship. She specializes in behavioral science and health psychology, with a focus on cancer prevention and control through behavior change interventions. Her academic background includes a PhD from the University of Sheffield and postdoctoral work at University College London (UCL) under Professor Jane Wardle. She has led multiple projects, including the ASCOT trial (testing habit-based interventions for cancer survivors) and the We Sure Can trial (dietary interventions for breast cancer patients). She also co-leads studies exploring lung cancer screening and lifestyle interventions in screening programs.
Becca holds honorary roles at UCL and is actively involved in professional bodies like the UK Society for Behavioural Medicine and the International Society for Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity. She supervises postgraduate researchers and teaches on the MBChB program, emphasizing health behaviors and behavior change. Her research spans physical activity, weight management, and teachable moments in healthcare settings, with a focus on improving outcomes for cancer survivors and those with severe mental health conditions.
