Jo Waller is Professor of Cancer Behavioural Science at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. She joined the Centre for Cancer Prevention, Screening and Early Diagnosis in 2023, maintaining a Visiting Professor role at King's College London (2019-2023) and prior 20-year affiliation with UCL's Epidemiology & Public Health departments. With a health psychology background (MSc and PhD from UCL), she leads behavioral science research in cancer screening and early diagnosis.
- Research Focus: Cancer screening acceptability, HPV self-sampling, AI in mammography, psychological impacts of screening results, and behavioral interventions for adherence in cancer treatment.
- Leadership: Deputy Director of Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (Director: Prof Peter Sasieni), collaborating with NHS screening programs and UK National Screening Committee’s Research and Methodology Group.
- Supervision: Mentors PhD students exploring topics like capsule sponge tests, risk-stratified screening, and barriers in cervical/breast screening across diverse populations.
- Methodology: Combines quantitative and qualitative research methods, with emphasis on behavioral science integration in clinical trials and policy development.
