Ream Al-Hasani is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at the Roy and Diana Vagelos Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences (DBBS), affiliated with the Center for Clinical Pharmacology and Bursky Center for Human Immunology & Immunotherapy Programs (CHiiPs). Her research focuses on endogenous opioid systems to address addiction, affective disorders, and chronic pain through interdisciplinary approaches.
- Active in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, and Biochemistry
- Key subfields: Optogenetics, Opioid receptor dynamics, and Wireless neuromodulation
Recent work includes designing wireless neural devices for pain management, analyzing κOR biased agonists for pain/itch, and exploring motivational deficits in chronic pain models. Collaborative efforts bridge academia and industry to advance tools and knowledge.
She mentors PhD/MSTP students and has published 42 peer-reviewed articles with significant citations (e.g., 76 for the 2023 Nature paper). Research trends highlight innovations in opioid receptor engineering, neuromodulation, and biophysics of endogenous peptides.
