Benjamin Garcia is the Raymond H. Wittcoff Distinguished Professor of Biological Chemistry and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine, where he also serves as Head of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics. His affiliations include the Roy and Diana Vagelos Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences (DBBS), the Center for Drug Discovery, Brain Tumor Center, and Siteman Cancer Center.
Research interests focus on quantitative proteomics to understand protein and proteome modifications, including histone post-translational modifications, ADP-ribosylation, and γ-carboxylation mechanisms. His work extends to microbial regulation of T cell biology in traumatic brain injury contexts.
Recent publications highlight advancements in mass spectrometry platforms (e.g., dELTA-MS for ADP-ribosylation site identification, top-down proteomics on time-of-flight instruments) and interdisciplinary studies linking vitamin K-driven carboxylation to membrane processes, alongside microbial metabolites' role in neuroimmunology.
Students seeking mentorship in proteomics, structural biology, or microbiome-immunology intersections can engage with Dr. Garcia as he actively mentors PhD/MSTP candidates.
