Raymond Marks

Raymond Marks is Associate Professor of Classical Studies and Language Sequence Coordinator at the University of Missouri's College of Arts and Science. Holding a PhD from Brown University, he specializes in Roman epic poetry with emphasis on Flavian-era authors like Valerius Flaccus and Silius Italicus.

His research examines Ovidian influences in post-Augustan epic, analyzing narrative techniques and political undertones. Recent publications include monographs exploring gender dynamics and intertextuality in the Argonautica (2024). Teaching spans Latin language courses and seminars on imperial literature, emphasizing left-to-right reading pedagogy.
