Raymond L. Fowler

Dr. Raymond L. Fowler is the James M. Atkins Distinguished Professor of Emergency Medical Services and Professor of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services, and Public Health at UT Southwestern Medical Center's Department of Emergency Medicine. With over four decades of experience, he is an international leader in prehospital care, focusing on cardiac arrest, trauma, and behavioral health emergencies. He pioneered EMS Medicine as a recognized medical subspecialty and was the first UT Southwestern physician to pass the EMS Medicine Board Certification exam in 2013. His leadership roles include founding member and President of the National Association of EMS Physicians, and President of the Georgia College of Emergency Physicians.

Research interests emphasize improving EMS protocols, disaster medicine, health equity, and pandemic response. He developed the EMS Medicine Subspecialty Review Course and contributed to critical studies on resuscitation techniques, stroke triage, and public health preparedness.
