Betty Yang

Betty Yang, MD, MS, is an emergency medicine physician and prehospital researcher affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She serves as associate medical director of the UTSW/Parkland BioTel EMS System and cares for patients at Clements University Hospital and Parkland Memorial Hospital. Her research focuses on prehospital resuscitation, particularly out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, ventilation techniques, and trauma care innovation.

Dr. Yang holds a master’s degree in Health Systems and Population Health from the UW School of Public Health. She completed EMS and research fellowships at the University of Washington, gaining expertise in quality improvement, pandemic response, and implementation science. Her work integrates clinical practice with translational research, emphasizing novel therapies and evidence-based prehospital care.

Her research portfolio includes studies on resuscitation outcomes, temperature management post-cardiac arrest, and ventilation device efficacy. Recent work explores machine learning applications for predicting refractory ventricular fibrillation during cardiac arrest. She has secured funding from the Medic One Foundation and the AHA Strategically Focused Research Network.

Awardees include the UT Southwestern Dean’s Scholar in Clinical Research. Dr. Yang collaborates with EMS agencies like Seattle Fire Medic One and King County Public Health, advancing prehospital protocols. She previously served as a flight physician with Airlift Northwest, enhancing her hands-on experience in critical care transport.
