معرفی
Raymond Hall is a Professor in the Department of Physics at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside. His research spans experimental particle physics and science education. Previously, he was a core member of the DØ Collaboration at Fermilab, contributing to the discovery of the top quark and precision measurements in high-energy physics. His current focus is on critical thinking pedagogy and assessing student learning outcomes in science education. He teaches courses like NSCI 4 (Science and Nonsense: Critical Thinking) and PHYS 115 (Quantum Mechanics).
Education:
- Ph.D., Physics, University of California, Riverside
Research Interests:
Dr. Hall's work bridges particle physics and education. His particle physics research involved collider experiments analyzing top quark properties, CP violation, and jet physics. His educational research explores how science education reduces epistemically unwarranted beliefs and improves critical thinking skills. He actively publishes in both physics and educational journals.
Key Contributions:
- Contributed to top quark discovery and precision mass measurements with the DØ Collaboration
- Developed risk models for public safety initiatives
- Investigated pedagogical strategies for fostering scientific literacy
Teaching:
- NSCI 4: Science and Nonsense (Critical Thinking in Science)
- HONOR 103: Natural Sciences, Culture, and Human Behavior
- PHYS 115: Quantum Mechanics
Labs/Teams:
Principal contributor to the DØ Collaboration (1989-2010), a 700+ member experimental physics group at Fermilab.
