Raymond Arthur is a Professor in the Law Department at Northumbria University, specializing in children’s right to self-determination within justice systems and the experiences of vulnerable youth. He holds a PhD in Law (2000) and focuses on interdisciplinary research addressing youth justice, children’s rights, and innovative legal methodologies.
His research interests include youth detention policies, neurobiology’s role in legal proceedings, and systemic reforms to protect young people’s rights. Key areas of study involve child-friendly information rights, criminal record transparency, and the intersection of neuroscience with courtroom practices.
Arthur has contributed to over 90 publications, including co-editing International Perspectives of Neuroscience in the Youth Justice Courtroom (2025). His work emphasizes transformative solutions for societal challenges, such as reimagining secure home designs and preventing youth criminalization through legislative reforms.
