Harry Annison

Harry Annison is a Professor of Criminal Justice at Southampton Law School, University of Southampton. His research focuses on penal politics, probation reform, and narrative influences on penal policy. He leads the ESRC-funded 'Rehabilitating Probation' project (2022–2025), examining the reconfiguration of probation services in England and Wales. Annison also serves as Book Review Editor for Punishment & Society and collaborates with organizations like the Howard League for Penal Reform and the Prison Reform Trust. His teaching includes modules on penal policy and criminal justice systems.

Current research explores probation service unification, parole politics, and the impact of policy reforms on staff identities. External roles include editorial positions across multiple criminology journals and advisory roles with charities focused on penal reform. He supervises PhD students in Law and Politics, emphasizing empirical and policy-oriented research.
