Ravi Poorun is a Paediatric Clinical Lecturer at the University of Exeter's Living Systems Institute, with concurrent Visiting Clinical Lecturer appointments at the University of Bristol and University of Oxford. He serves as Principal Investigator for neonatal clinical trials at Exeter's Neonatal Unit, advocating for family-orientated developmental care to optimize outcomes for vulnerable infants.

Poorun's research centers on neonatal and paediatric neuroscience, focusing on early brain development, pain perception, sleep-epilepsy interactions, and neurodevelopmental outcomes. He pioneers digital twin modeling of brain development using EEG data and wireless neuromonitoring technologies, aiming to translate findings into practical clinical interventions for vulnerable infants. His work bridges neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and neonatal care to address critical gaps in understanding long-term neurological impacts of early-life exposures.
He has secured significant research funding including an NIHR i4i FAST project (£98,984) for remote aEEG monitoring in newborns with brain injuries, an EPSRC Health Technology Connectivity Award (£655,899), and an EPSRC Impact Visionary Award (£263,555). His awards include the prestigious London Pain Consortium Wellcome Trust MBPhD studentship.
Poorun actively mentors emerging clinician-scientists as part of his commitment to strengthening academic paediatrics. He serves on the Exeter Brain Network Steering Group and Children & Young People's Wellbeing @ Exeter Network, collaborating with leading researchers at Bristol, Oxford, and within Exeter's Living Systems Institute to advance neurodevelopmental research and clinical practice.
