معرفی
Dr. Emma Dempster serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Exeter, where she has been based since relocating with Professor Mill in 2012 after positions at King's College London and the University of Toronto.
Education
- Honours degree in Genetics from Cardiff University (1998)
- PhD at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, funded by MRC predoctoral studentship focusing on schizophrenia genetics
Research Interests
Her work centers on epigenetic mechanisms in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders using integrated genomics approaches. She pioneers CRISPR-Cas9-based epigenomic tools to profile regulatory landscapes in discrete brain cell populations from post-mortem samples, bridging fields like Genetics, Neuroscience, and Psychiatry to understand disease etiology across the lifespan.
Scientific Awards
- University of Toronto International Fellowship
Advising and Grants
Dr. Dempster secured the University of Toronto fellowship for her postdoctoral epigenetics research and actively engages in consultancy, external examining, and editorial opportunities. Her current work leverages institutional support within Exeter's research ecosystem for brain health analytics.
Labs and Teams
She is integral to the Epigenomics Lab at Exeter, which investigates dynamic gene regulation in brain health and disease through collaborative projects spanning neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric conditions.
