معرفی
Dr. Ravi Kulkarni is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health and Pathobiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine, North Carolina State University. He joined NC State in 2019 as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor. His research focuses on poultry immunology, infectious diseases, and vaccine development.
Education:
- BVSc (equivalent to DVM) – Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, India
- Masters in Immunology and Parasitology – Indian Veterinary Research Institute
- PhD in Immunology and Microbiology – University of Guelph, Canada
- Postdoctoral training – University of Guelph & Emory University Vaccine Center
Research Interests:
Dr. Kulkarni's laboratory investigates host-microbe interactions with a primary focus on poultry. His work is organized into three major research programs: (1) improving gut health and developing antibiotic alternatives against necrotic enteritis, clostridial dermatitis, and coccidiosis; (2) viral immunology and enhancing vaccine-induced immunity against Marek's disease and infectious laryngotracheitis; and (3) precision health technologies using sensor-based early disease detection.
Cross-cutting themes include probiotic and vaccine development, molecular adjuvants, and precision livestock farming tools.
Recent Publications Themes:
Over the last three years, Kulkarni's team has published extensively on poultry disease models, vaccine protection mechanisms, probiotic applications, and immune responses to bacterial and viral pathogens. The work spans avian pathology, veterinary immunology, and translational strategies for disease control in commercial poultry operations.
Scientific Awards:
- 2024 Bayer-Snoeyenbos New Investigator Award – American Association of Avian Pathologists
- 2024–2025 NC State Goodnight Early Career Innovator Award
Advising and Grants:
Dr. Kulkarni mentors a dynamic team of graduate students, DVM interns, and undergraduates. He currently serves as major advisor to three PhD and one MS student and as committee member or co-advisor to several others. His research is supported by multiple PI-level grants from US Poultry & Egg Association, USDA-NIFA, NC State Animal Health and Nutrition Consortium, and industry partners such as Eastman Chemical Company.
Laboratory and Collaborations:
The Kulkarni Laboratory is located in the CVM Main Building at NC State and includes research staff, graduate students, and undergraduate interns. Collaborative efforts extend across CALS (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) and with external partners including the Poultry Health Research Network and Canadian institutions.
