Maricarmen Garcia is a Professor in the Department of Population Health at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in poultry virology at the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center. She holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in relevant scientific disciplines.
Her research focuses on avian infectious diseases, particularly infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV), vaccine development, and host-pathogen interactions. She investigates mucosal immunity, vaccine efficacy, and viral pathogenesis in poultry systems.
Her publications demonstrate interdisciplinary work combining virology, immunology, and vaccinology approaches. Recent articles explore viral virulence factors, vaccine protection mechanisms, and novel vaccination strategies. Her work appears in virology, immunology, and veterinary science journals with frequent collaborations across institutions.
Professor Garcia has developed adapted viral strains for vaccine applications and evaluated combination vaccination approaches. Her research contributes significantly to understanding immune responses in tracheal mucosa following vaccination and challenge.
