Raul Mario Calzoni is a Full Professor of German Literature and Director of the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Bergamo. He previously served as President of the Degree Program in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures (2018-2024) and Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Transcultural Humanistic Studies (2021-2024). Additionally, he holds leadership roles in the Italian Association of German Studies (AIG) and the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA).
His research explores German literature from the Classical-Romantic era to contemporary works, with emphasis on:
- Cultural memory transmission in German-language literature
- Science-literature intersections (especially Frühromantik and 20th-century aesthetics)
- Intermediality between text, visual arts, and music
- Holocaust testimony and historical trauma
- Theory and practice of literary translation
His recent publications (2024-2025) focus on energy in literature, Günter Grass's oeuvre, Berlin's café culture, and Dante-Sebald comparative analyses. These works consistently engage with themes of cultural memory, ecological narratives, and digital humanities methodologies.
He leads two major research initiatives: the PRIN-funded project DisArch - Dissonant Narratives across Archives in the Age of Documediality (2025) and a research contract on German Literature (DD 47/2025).
