Her educational background centers on her doctoral work at the University of Trento in Comparative Literature and Linguistic Studies. Her academic career spans institutions in both Italy and Germany, reflecting her focus on cross-cultural linguistic studies. She has maintained continuous research activity since completing her doctorate, with particular emphasis on discourse analysis in academic contexts.
Carobbio's research explores the intersection of language, discourse, and culture with special attention to scientific and academic discourse, language popularization strategies, oral language syntax, and Italian-German contrastive pragmatics. Her work investigates discourse markers, self-commentary practices, and the relationship between orality and literacy in academic communication. She has made significant contributions to understanding how language functions in political contexts, tourism communication, and migration-related discourse. Her research consistently examines the practical applications of linguistic theory in educational settings, particularly regarding the teaching of German as a foreign language.
Analysis of her publication record reveals a strong focus on academic discourse analysis, with particular expertise in comparative studies between Italian and German academic communication. Her work frequently examines discourse markers, recapitulation forms, and self-commentary strategies across languages. She has extended this research to political discourse, tourism communication, and migration-related language use, demonstrating the breadth of her linguistic interests while maintaining methodological consistency in discourse analysis approaches.
Carobbio has been actively involved in significant research projects, most notably the international euroWiss project at the University of Hamburg. Her editorial work on communication in tourism contexts demonstrates her commitment to applied linguistic research with practical implications for language teaching and cross-cultural communication.
