Rasmus Rask Poulsen is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Ethnology at the SAXO-Institute, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen (2024-2026). His research examines the intersection of cultural heritage, religious communities, and temporal orientations in Denmark, with current focus on how entangled crises (e.g., climate change, war) disrupt temporal practices across generations.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Ethnology, University of Copenhagen, 2023
- MA in Social Anthropology, University of Copenhagen, 2017
Dr. Poulsen specializes in cultural heritage, World Heritage, and religious heritage within Nordic contexts. Using ethnographic methods, he investigates how heritage designations impact religious practices, authority structures, and knowledge production. His work explores memory, museums, archives, and the anthropology of Christianity, emphasizing generational dynamics and future-making amid crises like "permacrisis."
His publications (2018-2025) consistently analyze heritage-making in religious communities, particularly the Moravian Brethren in Christiansfeld. Recent work reveals how ongoing crises destabilize temporal routines and reshape future imaginaries across age groups, with strong emphasis on ethnographic fieldwork and crisis-induced temporal disruptions.
Currently, Dr. Poulsen collaborates on the Nordic research project "Disrupted Temporalities" (2023-2026), investigating crisis impacts on time perceptions in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. His doctoral research involved twelve months of fieldwork in Christiansfeld, resulting in the thesis "Keeping up with the Moravians" (2023).
