Dr. Rasmi Nair is an Assistant Professor at the Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, since 2021. A medical practitioner trained in India, she holds an MPH from Western Kentucky University and a PhD in Epidemiology from Temple University. Her research focuses on cancer epidemiology, particularly disparities in breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancer screening using electronic health records (EHR) and community databases.
Current roles include Principal Investigator (PI) of a GMaP Region 3 pilot grant and Co-Investigator (Co-I) for the NCI-funded PROSPR II (UM1 grant). Dr. Nair’s work emphasizes improving screening access in underserved populations within safety-net healthcare systems, with a focus on colorectal and lung cancer.
Her research has explored factors affecting screening adherence, false-positive results in mammography and lung cancer screening, and disparities in surgical care for children. Recent studies highlight strategies to enhance colorectal cancer screening rates and address challenges in fecal testing accuracy.
