Raquel Reyes

Raquel Reyes, MD, MPA is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine. She practices at UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus and is affiliated with UNC Health as a clinician.

Dr. Reyes holds a BA in English & American Literature and Language (cum laude) from Harvard College, an MPA from Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government, and an MD from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

Her research interests focus on Hospital Medicine, Medical Education, Global Health, and Public Policy. Dr. Reyes is particularly active in medical student education, professional development for residents, and mentorship for students and resident trainees pursuing global health experiences. She serves as a co-Investigator on several research grants based at her partnership site in Uganda, primarily focused on malaria and expanding access to health care in rural areas. She co-founded a non-governmental organization in Uganda that supports healthcare and economic development activities in the region.

Dr. Reyes' recent publications span multiple disciplines including malaria research, virology, immunology, cancer research, and neurodegenerative diseases. Her work demonstrates a strong commitment to both clinical practice and translational research with global health implications, particularly her ongoing malaria research in Uganda.

As Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship, she plays a critical role in shaping medical education at UNC, while maintaining an active clinical practice in Hospital Medicine.
