Randall Lesaffer is a full professor at the Faculty of Law and Criminological Sciences of KU Leuven, affiliated with the Research Unit of Roman Law and Legal History. He is a member of LECTIO – KU Leuven Institute for the Study of the Transmission of Texts, Ideas and Images in Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. Lesaffer serves as a member of the Faculty Council of Law and Criminological Sciences and POC Rights.
- Promotor in projects on restitution of private property under war and peace law (16th–18th centuries) in the Southern Netherlands
- Co-promotor in research on nuclear sharing, legal secrecy, and early modern legal development in Habsburg Netherlands
His research focuses on legal history, particularly the evolution of international law, public and private law in Renaissance and Old Regime Europe. His recent publications analyze peacemaking, warfare, and the law of nations in early modern contexts, contributing to the Cambridge History of International Law series. Lesaffer’s teaching includes courses on the history of public and private law, legal history seminars, and the history of international law.
