Prof. Ran Nathan is a Professor at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, affiliated with the Dept. of Ecology, Evolution & Behavior within The Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. and currently serves as Principal Investigator (PI) overseeing research in movement ecology and related fields.
His research focuses on understanding organism movement mechanisms, dispersal strategies, and their ecological implications. Key interests include seed dispersal dynamics, bird migration patterns, plant-animal interactions, and the integration of novel tracking technologies. He employs interdisciplinary approaches, combining field observations with computational models.
Recent publications explore topics such as movement-mediated community assembly, cognitive navigation in bats, and the use of deep learning for wildlife classification. His work bridges theoretical ecology with applied conservation challenges, emphasizing the importance of spatial complexity in ecological systems.
Prof. Nathan’s contributions span over 20 years, with a focus on advancing methodologies in movement ecology and their application to biodiversity conservation. He collaborates globally, evidenced by multi-institutional authorships in his publications.
