Ramraj Gautam

Ramraj Gautam, Ph.D., is a Teaching Professor in the Susan and Alan Solomont School of Nursing at the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences, University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML). He has been affiliated with UML since 2008, focusing on creating supportive and inspiring educational environments. His academic leadership includes co-chairing the UML Age-Friendly University Collaborative and directing the Interprofessional Education (IPE) committee. He also serves on the ADVANCE Office for Faculty Equity & Resilience leadership team.

Education: PhD in Health Sciences and Nursing (Social Gerontology specialization, University of Tokyo, 2008); MA in Sociology (Tribhuvan University, Nepal, 2000).

Research focuses on intergenerational initiatives involving retired academics, global gerontology education, and age-friendly university principles. Key areas include engaging emeritus professors, fostering interprofessional education, and addressing ageism. His work emphasizes cross-cultural connections and refugee mental health.

Selected awards include the 2023 FAGHE Fellowship, Jacqueline F. Moloney Honors College Founder Award, and multiple Excellence in Teaching Awards. His grants include projects on intergenerational learning partnerships and anti-racist pedagogy.

He serves on editorial boards for Gerontology & Geriatrics Education and the Gerontological Society of America’s Age Inclusivity Workgroup. His collaborative projects address global aging challenges through research partnerships in Nepal, Thailand, and Bhutanese refugee communities.
