Sandra Mote

Sandra Mote is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Simulation at the Susan and Alan Solomont School of Nursing within the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She has been a full-time faculty member since 2011 and holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Health Promotion (2021) from UMass Lowell, alongside advanced degrees in Nursing and a BFA in Theatre.

Research Interests: Focuses on reducing mental illness stigma among healthcare providers, promoting mental health care, and interprofessional education simulation training. Her work addresses factors predicting stigma in emergency nurses and physicians caring for behavioral health patients. She integrates theatre and simulation techniques, such as using actors as standardized patients.

• 2015 University IPE Fellow, contributing to experiential learning initiatives and national presentations
• IRB #14-049 Grant: Use of Standardized Patients in Nursing Fundamentals Education (2014)

Key Contributions: Presented nationally on therapeutic communication, psychiatric simulation, and interprofessional education. Co-developed the Summit Elder Care experiential learning course and annual IPE case study competitions. Selected to present at the National Academies of Practice Conference (2018).
