Ramona Carroll Albin is an Associate Professor of Law at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University. She joined the faculty in 2017 after over a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Alabama, where she specialized in criminal trial and appellate litigation. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in Texas and Massachusetts. Albin holds a BA from Wesleyan University, a JD from the University of Texas School of Law, and an MPH from Boston University School of Public Health.
Her teaching focuses on Evidence, Criminal Law, Public Health Law, and Election Law. Her research explores intersections between evidence law and societal issues, including sexual stereotypes in legal proceedings and the admissibility of sensitive evidence. She has been recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the Harvey S. Jackson Excellence in Teaching Award (2018, 2019, 2022-2023) and the Lightfoot Franklin & White Faculty Scholarship Award (2021).
Albin is actively involved in legal education and advocacy. She has chaired conferences like the Eleventh Circuit Appellate Practice Institute and presented at national forums on topics such as advocacy training and social justice. She is a member of the Alabama, California, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Texas bar associations, with federal court admissions including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Her recent publications address executive privilege, rape shield laws, and evidentiary rules. She has mentored students through Cumberland’s advocacy programs and contributed to legal scholarship on gender bias and criminal procedure.
