Dr. Ramalingam Radhakrishnan serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Prairie View A&M University's College of Engineering. His professional credentials include being a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (F. ASCE). Dr. Radhakrishnan maintains an active research program with connections to multiple federal agencies and industry partners.
Dr. Radhakrishnan's research spans several critical areas of civil engineering with particular emphasis on structural performance of offshore infrastructure and transportation education initiatives. His work includes innovative applications of nanotechnology for concrete enhancement, trenchless technology methods, and analysis of aftershock effects on structures. He has also developed significant expertise in space-related engineering applications through NASA-funded projects on lunar outpost construction and space vehicle flotation.
His research portfolio demonstrates consistent funding from prestigious sources including the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, United Space Alliance, Lockheed Martin, Department of Transportation, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Notable projects include 'Capacity and Performance of Foundations for Offshore Wind Towers' (NSF-funded), 'Space Vehicle Flotation and Survival Studies' (NASA-related), and multiple transportation workforce development initiatives focusing on minority student recruitment.
Dr. Radhakrishnan has received recognition through his Professional Engineer license and Fellowship in the American Society of Civil Engineers. His contributions extend beyond traditional research to include significant educational outreach efforts, particularly through summer transportation programs targeting K-12 students and minority populations.
His academic contributions include developing web-based introductory courses on space exploration and implementing programs to enhance education and career opportunities for minorities in transportation fields. Dr. Radhakrishnan also directs the Structural Engineering and Construction Materials Laboratory, providing hands-on research opportunities for students.
