Ralph Rogalla, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, St. John’s University, within the School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance and habilitation from Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany, and a diploma in Economics from Technical University Berlin. His research focuses on pension finance, household portfolio choice, and optimal insurance demand. Dr. Rogalla has taught courses on finance, actuarial science, and risk management at institutions including Goethe University and the Wharton School (2014 Metzler Visiting Professor).
His work bridges academic and practical finance challenges, particularly in retirement planning and annuity design. Key research areas include lifecycle portfolio optimization, longevity risk management, and regulatory impacts on pension systems. He has published extensively in journals like Insurance: Mathematics and Economics and Review of Finance, analyzing topics such as variable annuities, liquidity crises, and public pension reforms.
