Ralph C. Brashier serves as the Cecil C. Humphreys Professor of Law at the University of Memphis School of Law, where he has been a faculty member since 1990. He holds a prestigious named chair position and teaches core legal subjects including Property, Decedents' Estates, and Elder Law.
Professor Brashier's research focuses on Elder Law and Decedents' Estates, with his elder law textbook being adopted as required or recommended reading at multiple law schools across the country. His scholarly work has appeared in prestigious law journals including Boston University Law Review, Case Western Reserve Law Review, Iowa Law Review, Louisiana Law Review, South Carolina Law Review, Southern Methodist Law Review, Temple Law Review, and Utah Law Review.
He has received exceptional recognition for his teaching excellence, having been awarded the University of Memphis Distinguished Teaching Award twice, the Alumni Excellence in Teaching Award, the Farris Bobango Faculty Scholarship Award, and the Patricia and Dan Murrell Ethics and Professionalism Teaching Award. Most notably, graduating law students have selected him as Law School Professor of the Year on 13 separate occasions.
