David S. Romantz is the Cecil C. Humphreys Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Memphis School of Law. He previously served in this role from 2009 to 2015 and as Director of Legal Methods from 1998 to 2009. His work focuses on statutory interpretation in the U.S. Supreme Court and legal writing, including co-creating the CREAC legal-analysis paradigm.

Dean Romantz teaches Legislation, Administrative Law, Housing Adjudication Clinic, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure. He advises the Law School Honor Council and Hispanic Law Students Association, serves as a Hearing Officer for University Counsel, and is on the Public Safety Institute's advisory board. He also participates in ABA law school accreditation site teams.
His recent publications address legislative history, legal analysis frameworks, and criminal law principles. Awards include the 2020 Unity in Diversity Professor of the Year.
