Ralph Abelein

Prof. Ralph Abelein is a Professor of Practical Instrumental Playing at HfMDK Frankfurt since 2005, specializing in jazz piano, improvisation, song accompaniment, arranging, and ensemble work. He actively engages in artistic roles as a jazz pianist, arranger, composer, and conductor, collaborating with institutions like the Frankfurt Opera and Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra.

• Founded the HfMDK Jazz and Pop Choir (2009)
• Director of Education for teacher training programs (since 2020)
• Co-founded the MA Big Band cooperative degree program (2022)
• Representative on the Hessian Film and Media Academy board

In 2021, his "Music for Silent Films" project received the Hessian University Prize for Excellence in Teaching. He co-authored the textbook "Song Accompaniment and Piano Improvisation" with Jyrki Tenni, translated into four languages.
