John Goering serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano in the School of Music at Wichita State University's College of Fine Arts, where he teaches jazz piano, arranging, history, and World Music—including two online courses—while maintaining an active performance career across the Midwest.

Specializing in jazz and Latin music performance, Goering's research interests span improvisation techniques, cross-cultural musical fusion, and pedagogical approaches to piano instruction across classical, jazz, pop, Latin, and sacred genres. His work emphasizes practical application through ensemble leadership and composition.
As musical director and conductor for WSU Banda Hispanica—a prominent salsa/Latin jazz ensemble—he oversees local performances while directing multiple projects including the John Goering Jazz Trio, Donna Tucker Quintet, Tumbao Salsa Band, Marshall Matthews, Fields of Jazz, and Cubana Bop Latin Jazz ensemble. His private studio instruction covers comprehensive piano disciplines from technique to advanced arranging.
