Rajiv Radhakrishnan is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Radiology & Biomedical Imaging at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Co-Medical Director of the Yale PET Center and holds affiliations with the Yale Institute for Global Health. His work focuses on psychiatric neuroimaging, substance use disorders, and synaptic biology. He completed his MBBS at St. John's Medical College (2003), MD in Psychiatry at Yale (2021), and is board-certified in Addiction Medicine.
Research interests include cannabis effects on mental health, schizophrenia neurobiology, and PET imaging biomarkers. Key areas of exploration involve synaptic density measurement via [11C]UCB-J PET, cannabis-induced psychosis mechanisms, and age-related synaptic changes. His studies often bridge clinical psychiatry with neuroimaging technologies.
Notable contributions include demonstrating lower synaptic density in autism and schizophrenia patients, analyzing cannabis policy impacts on physician practices, and investigating substance use outcomes during the pandemic. Over 30 peer-reviewed publications highlight his multidisciplinary approach.
Recognition includes NIH Early Career Awards (2020), ISCTM New Investigator Award (2020), and the Alavi-Mandell Award (2019) for PET imaging research. Current clinical trials focus on cannabis neurodevelopmental effects, ketamine in bipolar depression, and PET biomarker applications.
He leads the Radhakrishnan Lab, collaborating with experts like D'Souza and Nabulsi to advance psychiatric neuroimaging. Active roles include Associate Editor of Journal of Dual Diagnosis and membership in the Medical Research Council (UK).
