Rajesh Thakker

Rajesh Thakker serves as May Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford within the Medical Sciences Division and Nuffield Department of Medicine, where he leads the Academic Endocrine Unit as a Consultant Physician. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of endocrine disorders affecting calcium and phosphate homeostasis, including endocrine neoplasia, renal tubular defects, and bone diseases.

His primary research interests encompass endocrinology and metabolic disorders, with specialized focus on calcium/phosphate regulation, parathyroid pathophysiology, endocrine tumor development, renal calcium handling, and bone metabolism disorders including osteoporosis and rickets. His work integrates molecular genetics, cellular physiology, and clinical analysis to elucidate disease mechanisms.

Recent publication trends demonstrate expanding research into molecular genetics of calcium disorders, novel therapeutic approaches like calcilytics for hypocalcemia, climate change impacts on endocrine function, and genetic underpinnings of bone fragility.
