Rainer Schade is a Professor at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle since 1992, following roles as an assistant there from 1979–1992. He specializes in graphics, painting, and interdisciplinary art practices. Born in Leipzig (1951), he holds a degree in free Graphics/Painting from the Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig (1971–1976), and studied under Stanisław Fiałkowski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland (1977/78). Since 1976, he has been a freelance artist engaged in public art, concept development, illustration, cartoons, and animated films.
His work spans solo/group exhibitions globally, including Dresden, Seoul, and Basel, with regular participation in the Greiz Biennale/Triennale for Satirical Drawing. Upcoming events include exhibitions like 'ZUKÜNFTE – Material und Design von Morgen' (2025) and collaborative projects with institutions like the new theater Halle. He has exhibited widely, such as 'House and Courtyard' (2018) with his artist family, showcasing photography, drawing, and painting.
Teaching and academic roles include organizing events like the BURG Session 2025 and Burg Summer School, alongside exhibitions at the GRASSI Museum and Designblok in Prague. His artistic practice integrates satire, architectural art, and performance, reflecting a commitment to both traditional and contemporary art forms.
