Professor Rainer Hoch is an active faculty member at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University, serving as Program Director in the Faculty of Economics, Department of Business Informatics. His research focuses on business information systems with emphasis on software development, systems analysis, document management, business process modeling, ERP systems, and information management, bridging theoretical computer science with practical business applications.
Prof. Hoch's research interests center around document analysis, information retrieval, and enterprise resource planning systems. His work demonstrates significant contributions to understanding how document processing techniques can be integrated into business workflows, particularly through his SAP-related innovations. His research methodology combines theoretical foundations with practical implementation, resulting in technologies that have been adopted in industry applications.
His publication record reveals a strategic evolution from foundational document analysis research in the early 1990s to applied business information systems work in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The progression shows increasing focus on SAP technologies, culminating in practical applications like SAP Smart Forms, reflecting his ability to translate academic research into industry solutions.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Two US software patents over SAP technologies
- More than 35 international publications and book contributions in prestigious venues including IEEE Computer and SAP Professional Journal
Prof. Hoch has maintained strong connections between academia and industry through his conference participation and professional activities. He served on the program committee of ICDAR (the world's largest document analysis conference) until 1999, acted as reviewer for international journals, and presented at major industry conferences including SAPPHIRE, SAP TechEd, and XML-Infotage. His leadership roles as Program Director, Program Coordinator, SAP HCC Project Leader, and International Seminar Director demonstrate his significant institutional contributions beyond research and teaching.
