Rafael Parra is an Associate Professor of Media Studies at The New School's School of Media Studies. He is a multiple Emmy Award-winning editor with over two decades of experience in film and television post-production. He has held roles at Sesame Workshop, editing Sesame Street and Plaza Sésamo, earning Emmys in 2010 and 2011. He also founded Timeline Film & Video, Inc., a production company specializing in multi-platform media content.
Rafael holds a Philosophy and Literature degree from Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, and a Film Production degree from Hunter College (City University of New York).
His research and teaching focus on digital filmmaking, video editing techniques, aesthetics of editing, post-production processes, and documentary editing. He emphasizes the application of these skills in multi-platform distribution environments.
Rafael has been honored with two Emmy Awards from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for Best Multiple Camera Editing in 2010 and 2011. His awards reflect his expertise in editing for children's television programs.
Rafael has over twenty years of teaching experience, instructing courses such as Digital Filmmaking, Advanced Post-Production, and the Aesthetics of Editing. His courses emphasize both technical and creative aspects of media production. He has also contributed to the curriculum development in media studies at The New School.
Timeline Film & Video, Inc., founded and led by Rafael, produces media content for international clients, news outlets, educational institutions, and independent filmmakers, adapting to contemporary digital distribution needs.
