Lakshmi N. Tirumala is an Associate Professor in Digital Media Production at Drake University’s School of Journalism & Mass Communication. He teaches courses in digital film/video production, graphic design, and television studio production, drawing on over 13 years of experience in nonlinear editing and collaboration with independent filmmakers.
- Two master’s degrees in Media and Communications with concentrations in Film and Television Production
His research focuses on media accessibility and media effects, including studies on web accessibility, closed captioning, and audio descriptions. He actively collaborates with external faculty and is researching the effectiveness of audio descriptions and transportation experiences.

- Co-chair of the Interactive Media and Emerging Technologies Division of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA)
- Member of the executive board of governors for the Upper Midwest Emmy chapter
