Rafael Kleiman

Rafael Kleiman is a Professor and Department Chair of Engineering Physics at McMaster University. He leads the Lab for Advanced Photovoltaic Research and focuses on solar energy, quantum materials, and satellite-based optical communications. His work bridges photovoltaics innovation with sustainable energy solutions, emphasizing multijunction solar cells, III-V/Si integration, and advanced characterization techniques.

Education: Ph.D. (Cornell University), M.Sc. (Cornell University), S.B. (MIT). He teaches ENGPHYS 2QM3: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics.

Research Interests: Photovoltaics (III-V/Si multijunctions, light trapping), quantum materials for computing, and satellite optical communications. Key projects include low-cost high-efficiency solar cells and next-gen photonic devices. His lab develops novel materials and architectures for energy and space applications.
