Radha Mahapatra

Radha Mahapatra is a Professor of Information Systems and Operations Management at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), serving as Chair of the department. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (1983), an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (1986), and a PhD in Management Information Systems from Texas A&M University (1994). His research focuses on reducing health disparities through mobile technologies, healthcare information systems, and ICT for development. He has led projects such as 'Reducing Health Disparities Among Minority Patients Using Mobile Technologies' and explored topics like agile methodologies and data quality.

Dr. Mahapatra’s teaching spans data warehousing, healthcare IS, and IT management. He has received multiple awards including the UTA College of Business’ Distinguished Research Publication Award (2010, 2005, 2002) and the Faculty Member of the Year (2000). His work has been featured in journals like MIS Quarterly and Communications of the ACM.

His recent publications emphasize responsible AI frameworks, social media’s role in health crises, and mHealth applications. He actively advises doctoral students, with notable advisees including Ramakrishna Dantu and Mohammad Murad. Dr. Mahapatra’s grants include funding from State Farm and UTA’s Research Enhancement Program. His research aligns with global goals to leverage IT for marginalized populations’ healthcare and development challenges.
