Dr. Rachith Shanivarasanthe Nithyananda Kumar is a leading researcher at the University of Hasselt (UHasselt), Belgium, where he currently serves as Lead of Lighting Devices. He holds a PhD from UHasselt and has prior experience as an Assistant Professor at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology in Bangalore, India (2014–2018). His research focuses on solution-processable thin films, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), and plasmonic nanoparticles, with notable contributions including the invention of Spray-on-Screen and ChillCoat technologies. These innovations address challenges in ultra-thin film deposition for optoelectronics, batteries, and biomedical devices.
Dr. Kumar’s work has been supported by a prestigious FWO research grant (2022–2023), enabling collaborations with the University of Colorado, Boulder, to explore plasmonic nanoparticles’ role in enhancing optoelectronic properties of organic and perovskite thin films. His expertise spans material fabrication, characterization, and application, with a strong emphasis on practical commercialization pathways.
Key research themes include improving OLED efficiency via roll-to-roll compatible spray coating, nanoparticle integration for enhanced optoelectronic performance, and plasmonics-driven applications. His interdisciplinary approach bridges fundamental material science with industrial-scale manufacturing solutions.
Dr. Kumar’s academic journey began in India with bachelor’s and master’s degrees before advancing to doctoral studies at UHasselt under Prof. Wim Deferme. His career reflects a blend of academic rigor and applied innovation, positioning him at the forefront of organic and perovskite optoelectronics research.
