Dr. Rachel Warriner is a Research Fellow at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, specializing in feminist art, gender and sexuality, and the intersection of art with political activism. Her research interrogates how emotion, collaboration, and institutional critique shape artistic practice, particularly in 20th-century American and Irish contexts.
- Education: PhD from University College Cork on Nancy Spero's work.
- Current Roles: Co-convener of the Courtauld's Gender and Sexuality Research Group; co-founder of the Group Work: Contemporary Art and Feminism network; curatorial partner in Pluck Projects (2014–ongoing).
Her research interests span feminist art movements, collective activism, affect theory, and the politics of the art canon. She has extensively published on Nancy Spero, Maggie O'Sullivan, and Irish experimental film, emphasizing art's role in resisting patriarchal and capitalist structures.
Recent publications include the 2023 book Pain and Politics in Postwar Feminist Art, peer-reviewed articles on maternal experience in art (2022), and curatorial responses to Alice Maher (2018). She has also contributed to feminist collectives in Ireland (2022) and analyzed laziness as resistance (2019).
